Techniques

To achieve the best quality with maximum efficiency, we developed a series of custom tools and workflows for the NPR (Non-Photorealistic Rendering) look of the FINI project. Our pipeline was built around Maya, Substance Painter, and V-Ray, allowing us to streamline the process while maintaining full artistic control.

One of the key tools we created was a texture loader designed specifically for Substance Painter exports. This tool featured smart presets that automatically applied the correct shader based on the type of asset — whether it was metal, plastic, vegetation, or other materials — saving a huge amount of manual work and ensuring consistency across the entire project.

Visually, the environments combined a 3D base with a 2D illustrative style, giving the scenes a stylized, almost hand-painted look while preserving depth and volume. Artistic borders and contour lines were drawn by hand to give it personality, but we also developed scripts to automate specific adjustments and shader presets, allowing the team to focus on the creative aspects without sacrificing speed or quality.

The result was a unique visual identity — a hybrid of 3D depth with a flat-shaded, graphic style — tailored for the FINI universe.

Meet our Team!

Ale Barbosa
Environment Supervisor — Lumascape Studio

I was responsible for supervising the environments and defining the look of the FINI project. My role was to guide the visual style, making sure we kept consistency and quality across all the scenes — but always with a creative and fun approach.

I also developed some tools and scripts to help speed up the process, from texture loading systems to smart shader presets. The idea was to create a workflow that would allow the team to focus on the art, without getting stuck in repetitive tasks. In the end, I'm really proud of what we achieved — a project full of personality, with a unique style and a lot of love in every detail.

Malu Saraiva
CEO & Project Manager at Lumascape Studio

Hi! I’m Malu, co-founder of Lumascape Studio. Here I take care of the organization behind the projects — from managing the production flow to handling finances and making sure everything happens on time (and with love).

I also lead our social media and communication, because I believe every project has a story to tell — and I love being part of that connection between our work and the people who follow us.

While Ale and the team are creating worlds in 3D, I’m the one making sure the real world around here runs smooth, organized, and with purpose.

Artists on Fini

Tayná Aimoré

It was such an honor to be part of the Luma Scape team on this beautiful Fini animation. This was a very challenging project and I couldn’t be happier to have been a part of it. Not only it allowed me to learn and explore new techniques, it also helped me to better develop my skills as an artist.

Amanda Ribeiro

Taking part in the Fallin' in Love project by Fini was a challenging and exciting experience. Throughout the processes I worked on, I was able to discover and refine new techniques to align them with the animation's concept

Gabriel Rocha

It was a really great experience to be part of the Fini project. Despite the challenges, the freedom to explore artistic painting techniques alongside 3D was essential to give the project its unique look. The teamwork at LumaScape was fundamental to the final result, and being able to contribute to it was very meaningful to me.

Danilo Silva

The project as a whole was a major challenge, especially in the development and application of lookdev, which captivated me from the very beginning. Despite having references, the approach was unique and required a great deal of technical creativity. With strong team support and close supervision, we achieved an excellent result. The process became increasingly fluid and procedural. It was a valuable experience that expanded my professional skill set.

Vinicius Vanderline

Working on this project was an awesome experience. It was definitely a challenge, but in the best way possible. It was really cool to dive into a different style of lookdev than I'm used to. I'm really proud of what we created as a team and grateful for everything I learned during the project.

Marcus Sidonio

The Fini project was one of the most artistic projects I’ve worked on, stepping a bit away from traditional 3D and mixing in 2D techniques. During the production process, it was very rewarding to be part of the lookdev and modeling development. The storyline also makes everything we did feel meaningful within the overall context of the film.
